When you think of spring cleaning, you probably think of the house. Along the same lines, when you think about landscaping, you probably think of the garden! Spring cleaning is something you should do in your garden too. That is to say, this is an important way to keep it looking its very best.
Top Landscaping Spring Cleaning Tips
Just like your home, your garden can get disorganized and messy from time to time. This can seriously hurt the overall impression it makes. If you’ve gone to the trouble to have this space beautifully landscaped, then you might as well do some spring cleaning to enjoy it at its best!
Get Rid of Debris
The first landscaping spring cleaning tip is easy: get rid of the debris. You’ll find that during winter, the wind will have blown things about your garden and even thrown in things from elsewhere! It can feel like a personal insult to find crisp wrappers and other litter in your garden!
But be that as it may, it’s still down to you to get rid of it. The same goes for errant leaves, twigs, dirt, and anything else. So grab a broom, a litter picker, and a black bin liner. Then go and clean the space to keep it looking its very best.
Prevent it From Coming Back
The next landscaping spring cleaning tip is to do whatever you can to prevent it from coming back. The good news is that there are a few ways to achieve this.
The first is to simply remove things from your garden that create a lot of debris in the first place. That means that you might want to think twice about that big tree over your patio. Maybe you might even consider investing in astroturf!
Another is to think about ways to control wind entering your garden. This creates a lot of the mess that you probably have to deal with, so think about adding a side passage door, for instance, to act as a windbreak. Otherwise, wind can rush down the side of your house by the fence and then throw everything about!
Prune and Trim
You know how you apply a little white paint to your skirting boards and it suddenly lifts up the whole room? Sometimes small details make a huge impact on the overall impression space gives off. The same is true for pruning and trimming. By cutting back hedges and other plants, you can make everything look considerably “neater” which has a big impact on the way you feel while in the garden!
Get rid of those dead leaves and flowers, and cut everything back to a similar length/attractive shape. The same is true for your lawn: mow it!
Go Minimal
One of the best ways to make your home look tidier is to cut back on things. The same goes for your garden. If you have too many pots, if your plants are overcrowded, or if you have hundreds of garden gnomes… consider scaling back. Not only is a more minimal décor in vogue right now, but this approach will also ensure that your garden looks neater and is easier to maintain.
Think of it this way. If you have 20 items and you remove 10 of them, then the 10 that remain will be the items you like the most. This increases the average “quality” of what is on display, making your garden look all the more impressive in the process.
Weed
It’s not sexy, it’s not fun… but if you want your home to look its best, then you need to weed the garden. Make sure that you don’t let any weeds get through the cracks (literally and figuratively) and spray weed killer to ensure they don’t come back either!
Clean
What’s also not sexy is cleaning: but there’s actually a lot that can be cleaned outside. That is true of your tiles but also your garden furniture, shed/summer house (especially if they’ve become dumping grounds), and even walls. Painting goes one step further, but it can really help your garden’s colors to pop!
Get Planting
Of course, spring is also the time to get planting! So prepare for the coming summer by planting the things you want to see come out and take this opportunity to design a new look for your garden.
